Winter Skin Must Haves: Editor’s Picks

by, Benish A. Shah, Editor-in-Chief

Winter skincare is all about adding essential products to your routine to make your skin glow from the inside out.   And to help you out, NEEM stepped out and picked out skincare essentials for South Asian women… from the dry skinned to the acne prone.

Dry Skin Essential: Origins’ New Drink Up Intensive
The one thing you should never forget is an intensive moisture mask.  But when skin experts look at South Asian women… they assume we don’t need that extra pump of moisture. Thankfully Origins came to our rescue with their new Drink Up Intensive mask.

It’s Claim: Avocado and Apricot Kernel Oil lock in moisture, and you only have to use it twice a week.

NEEM says: We tried this mask on women with extremely dry skin and it worked like a charm.  The best part about is the low maintenance nature of the product.  Instead of waiting around for the mask to dry, you put it on at night and wash your face in the morning.  And it smells heavenly.

Acne Emergency:  Murad Acne Complex

From the world of Noxema to Proactiv, we wondered what acne total care system was going to solve our woes.  With South Asian American women (and men) being increasingly prone to acne, we tested the products out and found a winner for NEEM readers:  Murad’s Acne Complex.

The Claim A total care system for acne.  From face wash, to medicated spot treatments, to a specially created moisturizer.  Murad’s system promotes healthy skin and clears acne through the science of cellular water.

NEEM says: It worked.  The regimen was simple:  wash face, apply acne medicine.  We tried it on women with severe acne, moderate acne, and combination skin – it worked for each of them.  The best part about the Murad system is that they provide you with a moisturizer built for the total care system, which is an essential part of acne-prone skin!

Daily Maintenance:  Pure Cloud Cream by Skyn Iceland

Skincare isn’t complete with an essential moisturizer that is light as air, but works with intensity.  Luckily, the geniuses at Skyn Iceland created the Pure Cloud Cream for us!

The Claim: Soothing, much like the “kid glove” version of skin care.  The Pure Cloud cream with Biospheric Complex is light-as-air yet intensely hydrating for your skin.

NEEM says: If this is what clouds feel like, we’re glad we have it in a bottle.  Especially for wind-lashed winter skin in the Northeast, this cream was a light, airy, and soothing to the skin.  Once we put it on, it provided all day moisture intensive relief, without making our skin shine.  And, it did not clog our pores!  A great investment for ACTUALLY healthy skin.

Must Have Bedtime Staple: United State Toner by Origins
Toner is one of those things that South Asian women should keep in their bedside drawer, complete with a set of facial cotton rounds, to use on their face after a long night out.  One of those nights that you just can’t drum up the energy to wash your face, moisturize, and then fall into bed. For us at NEEM, the answer to those nights is the United State toner by Origins.

The Claim: Exfoliators slough the flakes and remove pore clogging matter.  Ingredients such as Laminaria and Soy Protein protects balance out the skin, preventing dry patches.

NEEM says: It cleans your skin, removing even tough make-up, without drying it out.  The aromatic use of Bergamot, Spearmint and Lavender further calm the skin – and your tired mind – to create a spa-like experience every time you use the toner.  A definite skincare staple!
