Going Green with Envy

by, Avni Sampath

Vibrancy has always played a role in South Asian fabrics and fashion, like this gorgeous number by Anupama Dayal.  From our weddings to our holidays, it is never a tepid occasion in terms of color. And this season, it seems that those of us in the US have taken a page from South Asian fashion, opting for brighter hues and jewel tones over last year’s more subdued browns and beiges.

The go to color this season is Jade and any variation of its shading.  Inspired by the gemstone, which is enmeshed in mythological significance, the color heals and soothes while quietly demanding that attention be paid.  In prehistoric times, Jade was also esteemed for its toughness, which made it an ideal material for weapons and tools – and that inspiration is apparent in the sweaters and jackets which serve as armor for women in the winter. Brilliant in its coloring – hints of white, shades of green, and flecks of golden – Jade is a welcome tone change in Winter fashion.

NEEM’s Envious Must Haves

(1) The Oversized Sweater :  a staple for Winter – and a warm one at that – this piece is not an option, it is a must have.  Pair  it with jeans, skinny or bootcut, or don it over leggings – either way, it will look killer.  NEEM recommends:  Silk & Cashmere boyfriend sweater from Victoria’s Secret.

(2)  Pleated Halter Top:  Pleats are a girl’s best friend, as long as they are vertical, on a shirt, and never on pants.  A good call this season is a pleated halter top in a beautiful green tone which can be paired with brown, black, even pink.  Try out Alice & Olivia’s Green Accordion Halter top for $122.00 (right).

(3)  Shirt dress with Flair:  The last essential Jade-inspired piece that we recommend you have in your closet is the shirt dress.  Perfect for hiding that little belly bulge that pops up during the holidays, the shirt dress looks universally great.  Try out Yumi Kim Printed Silk Charmeuse Jacquard Vine Green Dress at $104.00 (left).

Now – go rock out the green…just leave any red out of your outfit!
